Who are your clients exactly?

Clients are busy people who realise that their work and/or lifestyle is affecting their wellbeing and want to do something about it.

They are typically women between the ages of 25 and 55 who are busy working and/or looking after their families and find it a challenge to make time for themselves, but know that to be their best self for others, they need to take care of themselves too. They have long term back pain or suffer annoying aches and pains, worry about their posture and stiffness, and can’t move as easily as they would like. They may also need help in managing their scoliosis, have low bone density or be experiencing problems associated with separated abdominals (Diastasis Recti).

They want effective and high quality sessions tailored to their exact needs and how they are feeling on the day.

You mention your clients are typically women, do you ever teach men?

Yes, absolutely. Although the majority of my clients are women, I do have male clients, some on a one to one basis and others who come for duets with their partners.

Who will your sessions work for?

My sessions are suitable for everyone. I welcome all abilities and whatever your level, you will be able to learn in a fun, warm and welcoming environment.

What type of person do I need to be to make this work?

There is no right or wrong person for these sessions, they’re suitable for anyone regardless of whether you’ve done pilates before or not, and what level of fitness you are starting from. All you need is a willingness to make a commitment to your health and fitness and to invest some time in yourself so that you can make the changes you’re looking for.

Where do sessions take place?

Face to face sessions take place in a specialist state of the art studio located in Great Dunmow.  If it’s not possible to get to the studio, I also offer virtual sessions via Zoom.  It’s also possible to do a mix of face to face and virtual sessions.

I’ve tried lots of stuff before and nothing has worked. Does this really work?

Pilates can offer many benefits such as increased core strength, better body and spinal alignment, more strength and flexibility and an increased body awareness which enhances every day life. Many clients find that they gain a renewed sense of confidence in movement and feel empowered and in control of their bodies once again. If you are consistent in your practice and allow the good habits you learn in sessions to extend to other areas of your life you will see these positive changes. I will be there to help and guide you on your journey but ultimately you are in control of your own success.

If I’m not sure I’m ready to get started, can I try a session to see if it’s the right solution for me?

Yes, of course. You are more than welcome to book in for a free taster session with me. This will give you the chance to meet me and we can talk through any issues or concerns you might have and discuss your goals and what you’d like to achieve from the sessions. We will also do some pilates so you can get a feel for what it’s like to use the equipment and for my teaching and approach. You can also follow on Facebook for tips and news.

I’ve never used the equipment before, does it matter?

Not at all! Whether you’re a complete newbie to pilates, or you’ve been to some mat classes but never used the equipment before, you needn’t worry. Sessions will start at the right level for you.

I just want to learn the mat work, can I still come to your studio?

Absolutely! I do have clients who want to focus purely on mat Pilates and that’s completely fine. During your complimentary taster session we’ll discuss your requirements and goals in detail and agree the way forward.

What results can I expect?

I can tell you what I’ve experienced with my own body, but better than that, I’ll tell you what my clients tell me after their sessions. They feel they’re standing straighter and taller, they feel stretched and less tense and notice that their bodies move more freely and with ease. They feel stronger and fitter. They’re more aware of how they move in every day life and find themselves naturally correcting their posture. They notice every day movements such as getting up and down off the floor and bending to put their shoes on are easier, and they’re able to get back to doing activities they’d thought they were no longer able to do. They say knowing what to do if they feel stiff, tight or in pain has given them back their sense of control – and that these incidents happen less often and are less intense anyway. Many feel mentally better too, saying they feel calm and relaxed, as well as more energised, and better able to cope with what life throws at them. Pilates can help you make changes and it’s down to you as to how you let it do this.

How quickly can I expect results?

Joseph Pilates famously said that “In 10 sessions, you feel better, 20 sessions you look better, 30 sessions you have a completely new body.” Clients have told me they’ve felt changes happening after only a few sessions, but of course it can only happen if you commit to consistent practice – and it’s down to you as to how quickly results happen. If you attend sessions consistently and do any home exercises I suggest for you then you will see better results and faster.

It sounds great but I don’t have time?

Is your wellbeing and happiness a priority? If yes, then I know you will find the time. Any change we make in life takes a bit of time and organisation to become a habit and at first, creating some space in your life for Pilates may take a bit of planning, but once it becomes part of your routine – and you start feeling the benefits too – it will get easier. The hardest thing is getting started but why not jump in and give it a go!

Do I need to be fit to keep up in the sessions?

No – the sessions are completely tailored to you, your body and your capability. You know your own body better than anyone and we will work together to get you the best results. We’ll go at the right pace for you, albeit with lots of encouragement from me. Don’t worry though, although I might challenge you to achieve more, I won’t expect you to do anything impossible 🙂

Is it going to be really hard?

One of the many fantastic things about Pilates is that it can be easily adapted to suit any level, with exercises that can easily be made more or less challenging as appropriate. I will support you from the very start and will progress you at the right pace for you. Like anything new, you may need time to get used to and feel comfortable with everything, but rest assured that I would never teach you exercises that are impossible. Challenging, absolutely! Impossible, no!

Ok, I think this is for me, how do we get started?
